PALMETTO PECAN ORCHARD- Located near the historic 1700's town of Ridge Spring, the Palmetto Pecan Orchard offers 55 acres of Gloria Grand pecan trees that produce a large, plump fruit in high demand in this country and abroad. The trees range in age from 19 to 33 years old and are irrigated by two wells with the older trees on a drip system. The younger are watered by a nine zone RainBird sprinkler system. In addition to the acres of level, grassy orchard, there is a tractor shed and a cleaning and processing building with full bath. The orchard is expected to produce 30,000 pounds of pecans at harvest in the fall of this year. Recent improvements include improving the irrigation (which is now excellent) and installation of a new chemical injection system. (Chemigation – the newest technology available!!). The orchard has been chisel plowed to relieve compaction and the owner is currently working in the fertilizer and making the orchard floor smooth again.
